Mary Peters former British athlete, born in Halewood, moved
to Ballymena at age of eleven.in the summer of 1972 Olympics in Munich she won
the gold medal in the woman’s pentathlon. Took part in every commonwealth games
between 1958 and 1974.in these games she won 2 gold medals for the pentathlon,
plus a gold and silver medal for the shot put. On the outskirts of Belfast,
N.ireland’s premier athletics track was named in her honor. The current gold
medal holder is Laura Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė .my favorite filed event is
shut pot.
